How a Travelocity Coupon Code introduced me to the Best Cake Ever
So recently I told you guys about that time I used a coupon code to book myself a trip to Vienna, and it was awesome. I’d been toying with the idea of going to Paris for a while but kept coming up with excuses for putting it off: it’s a long flight, my French isn’t very good, but most often I said ‘it’s too expensive’. Then, I got an email with an offer from Travelocity for last-minute flight deals and there happened to be a really good offer on a flight to Paris so I thought what the heck! Once in Paris I did all the usual tourist things: I went to the Eiffel Tower, I went to the Louvre, I went to Notre Dame. But the main thing I did there was EAT! Hey I was also walking several miles every day, so it was all good. The wine was amazing of course, and the bread, and the cheese, what I was not expecting however was to encounter the best cake I had ever eaten in my entire life!
I’ve put the recipe for a chocolate-coffee glaze for cake down below. It’s not quite as good when you aren’t having it at a super adorable cafe along the Seine, but it’s still delicious and I highly recommend you try it! And go follow some travel coupon websites, www.facebook.com/coupongotravel is a good one. You never know when you might get a great deal and end up coming face to face with literally the best cake you’ve ever eaten, or something else awesome!
Café-Chocolate Glaze Recipe
Everyone loves delicious cake, but if you’re looking to make something unique for a special occasion or are just looking to spice up an old favorite recipe, the Café-Chocolate Glaze may be just what you are looking for. It’s a delightful cake topping for chocolate lovers and coffee lovers alike. It’s easy to make and all you need is a double boiler! Use it on cupcakes, double layer cakes, even cookies or cheesecakes! It makes a great fondue as well!
Ingredients:
- 1 and a half cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- A half tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 2 pinches of clove or 2 drops of clove oil
- A dash of nutmeg
- 3/4th cup of strong coffee
The first thing you do is make one cup of very strong coffee in your coffeemaker (we leave the strength of the coffee up to you). Prepare your double boiler while the coffee is brewing. Pour your semi-sweet chocolate chips into the double boiler and stir them continuously until they are partially melted. Slowly pour in the vanilla extract while stirring, and then add clove and nutmeg and stir until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted. Take 3/4th cup of the strong coffee and slowly pour it into the chocolate while stirring. (Coffee should be hot if you want the glaze to be smooth. It should be lukewarm if you want the mixture to have chocolate chunks.)
Remove the Café-Chocolate Glaze from heat and immediately pour it over your cake until there is a layer of glaze 1/8th to 1/4th of an inch thick. For double or triple layer cakes, pour glaze onto the bottom layer then place the top layer on gently before the glaze cools all the way. For cupcakes or cookies, pour or drizzle on using a ladle. Allow it 5 to 10 minutes to cool and harden. Enjoy!
